As an artist, I find my creative spark from nature and the simple magic hidden in deep mossy woods, the brightest of stars, and the echoing rhythm of hooves on dew-kissed grass gifted from my very own herd of horses.

And here is what I try to bring through my art.

Nature, my greatest muse, reveals her secrets in every leaf, every dewdrop. From the rolling hills near Ringford in Dumfries and Galloway, I draw forth visions of wildflowers and ancient oaks, and the land I claim stewardship of. My pencils, mainly inktense and lumocolour, sketch tales of moonlit meadows, while watercolours cascade like sunsets over distant hills.

Acrylics wield their magic, conjuring equine spirits, their manes like stardust, their eyes reflecting the wisdom of ages and the ancestral wisdom within the lands. Soft pastels whisper of twilight or of the Northern Lights with their wondrous palette, and ink dances like a wildfire across parchment or highlights shifting shadows. But look closer: pressed flowers nestle within the strokes, and you may find feathers fluttering.

And what of the message woven into each creation? It’s there, hidden in the curve of a horse’s neck, the tilt of a bird’s wing and the shape and colour of a flower. Wildlife artivism calls out as a statement, and a plea to protect, to cherish and to heal the planet and all who tread upon her land, soar in her skies, and swim in her waters.
